So you know you are not producing enough breastmilk, whether its a long-term issue or has just cropped up, its still an issue.  First, relax.  I know that’s easier said then done.  But stressing is just going to add to the issue.  Next, unless you fully understand why you’re not making enough breast milk consult with a Lactation Professional.  If the baby is breastfeeding then keep him/her at the breast as much as possible.  Your breasts need the stimulation.  Add in some breastpumping as that will stimulate the breasts.  Be sure you’re using a good quality breastpump.  In addition use some good quality herbs meant for breastfeeding.  Motherlove Herbals are my favourite.  Motherlove is a US based company.  The owner is a Lactation Consultant as well as an herbalist.  She was into all-natural, no pesticides, no herbicides, etc, etc before the rest of the world even knew those things were issues.   Motherlove Herbals are the best quality.  These herbal formulations are made specifically for breastfeeding women.  They’ve done all the research for you.  The herbs are picked and processed at the peak times so you know the quality is much better than pretty much anything you can get at the drugstore.   

The Motherlove Herbal formulations come in the regular formula (which contains minute amounts of alcohol used as a preservative) and alcohol-free formula.  Which should you choose?  Well Motherlove says both formulations are equally effective.  The amount of alcohol will not affect the baby so that’s not an issue.  There is a strong flavour with all the tinctures.  The alcohol-free tinctures offer a flavour that is not quite as strong as the with alcohol ones.  All the tinctures have a little bit of a bite to them, similar to the sting of mouthwash.  If you’re overly worried about the bite then you can always use the Motherlove capsules.  The capsules are a capsule with the tincture inside.

There are a lot of Motherlove Herbals to choose from.  The best choice to start with is usually the classic More Milk Plus.  The More Milk Special is the same tincture with Goat’s Rue added in. 

Most women see results using the Motherlove Herbals within a few days.  It’s best to take them for about 2 weeks to truly make your decision as to whether the lacation herbs are working for you.  They are safe to use with most medications.  Once you get your supply to the level you want it then wean slowly off the Motherlove tincture.  Some women find they only need to take the lactation herbs for a short time to boost the supply up and other women find they need to take the herbs long-term to keep their supply at an adequate level.  It’s different for every woman depending on why you have a low breastmilk supply in the first place.

So I admit blogging isn’t really my strong suit.  Some people are just meant to write in an entertaining fashion and that isn’t me.  But I’ll do my best to not bore you while keeping you informed of new items we’re bringing in, more stock, coupons and sales (everyone loves a good sale) and of course the latest info about breastfeeding. 

Let me tell you a little bit about Milk Diva and myself.  Milk Diva is not a new business although I just did a huge refurb on the website to make it easier to navigate and easier to find on the web.  Milk Diva has been in business since 2002, originally under the name Positively Breastfeeding and then Milk Diva.  I’m a Lactation Professional and I did consultations for a few years before I started selling product.  Now I concentrate on the store.  Milk Diva is fully e-commerce, meaning that there is no brick & mortar store.

People often ask me when I’m going to open a “real” store.  My answer “I have a real store it just happens to be online.  It works for Amazon and it works for me.”  I work a ton of hours but they’re very flexible hours which makes the business work for my family.  I have the joy of being able to see my kids at lunch and immediately after school.  I treasure these times as that’s when I get all the juicy info about what happened that day.  Oh the drama!  I also have the flexibility to be able to randomly take a long weekend when my hubby can fit it into his schedule.  Niiiiiice!
